Hello, my name is Greg D________ and I’m a sophomore at Parkway North High School.  We’re creating a documentary about global warming and i was wondering if i could ask you a few questions.  Do you believe that global warming exists? If not, why do you think it such a big issue being brought up today?  Is there enough awareness about the causes and effects of global warming?  Do you know what causes global warming? How are you contributing to global warming?  Are you doing anything to help prevent global warming? If so, what? Is this cost efficient and would you recommend these things to other people? Do you really think it makes a difference to the environment?  Are there any underlying causes of global warming that most people don’t know about? Could be secretly be adding to global warming? How so?  Does the earth itself contribute to global warming? Do you think its important to find ways to stop this?  Should people try to adapt to a warmer earth instead of changing it? Why or why not?  What is contributing to global warming the most: Long commutes to the city from suburban areas or short commutes with city gridlock? Are you in either of these situations? How long is your commute? Would you consider moving to be more energy efficient or to emit less CO2?  Have you checked your carbon footprint? Would you consider doing so? Throughout this project I’ve run into a large amount of facts, opinions, theories, and out there conspiracies about global warming. I’ve been able to sift through the crazy hippie environmentalists that say that if we don’t change now then the earth will flood and the aerosol can toting slobs that could care less about the planet.  There are stories from all across the board and I think that many people believe things about global warming that aren’t true because they haven’t had facts presented to them from people that have studied and evaluated many different views and findings on global warming.  With this documentary we can be that source that shows people facts and creditable findings on global warming and tell them the truth about what is really going on.

This incredibly boring video Cynthia Rosenzweig tells us her ideas on how to make food for the “warming globe.”  She says the Earth’s warming causes more floods than before, decreasing our food source.  She wants to grow food that will be flood resistant and can continue to grow even under heavy flood conditions.  She has created waterproof rice that grows in flood conditions and hopes to produce more flood resistant crops in the near future.

 Cynthia Rosenzweig knows her stuff about science, but her voice is so incredibly annoying that it was hard to concentrate.  The idea of flood resistant crops is a good idea because it would allow more crops to be harvested during flood season.

Ukrainian pop star Ruslana feels very strongly about going green.  Ukraine uses a surplus of natural gas and fossil fuels and Ruslana wants to try and convince people to become less dependant of these through her music.  She depicts a woman that is dependant on fossil fuels in one of her videos.  She looks very fake and synthetic and bland.  Ruslana feels that everyone can help make a difference if they try to cut back on their natural resource consumption.

I think that Ruslana’s message of conserving natural resources and trying to become less dependant on them is a good idea and i think that she will be able to influence anyone that listens to her music.  Her message will spread to the Ukrainians listening and hopefully they will change their ways.

Global Warming as a topic:

Global warming  isn’t a horrible topic but i would of rather done gas prices.  I don’t believe in global warming and i’m interested to hear what other people think about it.

What did you learn yesterday:

Yesterday I learned that a large number of global warming specialists lie to make global warming sound like a big deal and try to scar e people into donating money to fund their studies.  I also learned that global warming is a natural thing and it happens normally in nature.  

What kind of problems can you forsee in having global warming as a topic:

It might be hard to get a hold of specialists that would bother with a documentary made by kids.  Another possible problem is that global warming is a very general topic and it’s not very specific.

There is no evidance linking tropical storms and hurricanes to global warming.  Dr. William Gray explained that hurricane cycles are caused by nature,and not by humans.  He explained that ocean circulation patternes periodically change and cause increased hurricne activity.  A paper by six tropical cyclone specialists had three main points.  The first was that green house gas has no connection between hurricane activity.  Second, is that the changes in hurricane activity will be natural and small.  Their third topic said that by blaming global warming for hurricanes, they were hurting the creidibility of the scientific community.

       This article had alot of incite from professionals about global warming and the effects of it on hurricanes.  There are many papers cited that would be usefull to look at use as other sources.  The personals accounts were factual and explained the truth in an easy to understand way.

Doctor Zbigniew Jaworowski indicates that global warming is not only not a problem, but that it is siphoning billions of dollars a year away from other areas that need more money.  Annual worldwide spending on global warming has reached a ridiculous level of five billion dollars per year.  The scientific community is said to be in agreement with the theory that global warming is destroying the planet but that is not true.  many scientists criticize the assessments, and conclusions made by the IPCC.  one American climatologist,   ”To capture the public imagination…we have to…make simplified dramatic statements, and little mention of any doubts one might have….Each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective and being honest.” They are using scare tactics to get people to believe what they believe and invest money in their research.  

This site has a number of good quotes of officials and scientists that debunk global warming and critisize the IPCC.  It has interviews and talks about the ridiculous amount of money spent annually on global warming.  I learned that the IPCC and many global warming research centers exagerate and do not back up thier claims with scientific research.  One main concern for the IPCC is not admitting to anything of the sort and lying if they are confronted about it to preserve their image.
